The fourth evidence
Respect for boundaries is the fourth of the Six Evidences, which means by the time the boundary question comes up, a man has already demonstrated three other things in a specific order: accountability first, then consistency, then emotional availability. On a nine-forty summons after eleven months, he has demonstrated none of them, in no order, with zero track record. The boundary question is the first one he gets, which is where the trouble starts.
“But he was nervous. He was finally reaching out. Of course it was clumsy.”
Maybe. Genuinely, maybe. Clumsy is one awkward text; the willingness to hear a no without going quiet, or to come at a different hour, is not. That is the thing you are watching for.
